Easy Infant/Toddler Pony Pals Homemade Halloween Costume! Who hasn’t wanted a pony for Christmas? Now you can have one for Halloween with this equine sweet pony costume idea! It’s easy to make with a hooded sweat suit combination or a sleeper and a beanie; some yarn and 2 pairs of back socks. You’re sure to have the neighbors neighing with approval. The great thing about this costume is the versatility. Ponies come in so many different colors—brown, white, black, tan or yellow. If you want to be truly original, make the costume in a colored suit and go as ‘a horse of a different color’ from The Wizard Of Oz fame! Colorful ponies have also been made popular by the ‘My Little Pony’ character and movies. Use yarn to create a mane down the back of the hood and sweatshirt. Make pom-poms out of colored yarn and sew in an inch-wide strip to create a mane. Rug yarn is perfect for a mane, but any worsted weight yarn or heavier will do. For a Palomino like Trigger, use white yarn and the yellow sweatshirt. If you have a toddler, fashion a tail out of longer yarn pieces and attach to the back. To create horse ears, cut pointy ears out of felt that matches your sweat suit. Use pink felt in a smaller triangle for the inner ear. Glue together. If the felt isn’t stiff enough, glue straws and another triangle of felt over the straws to stiffen it up. Attach to the hood or beanie. Use 2 pairs of black socks on your little one’s hands and feet to create a hoof look. Pony Accessories: There are so many fun ideas you can do with a pony costume. Have your little one carry a feed pail or bucket to collect treats in. Or they could carry burlap sack and write ‘Oats’ on the side. If you have a little girl, go as a Princess Pony, with a crown, jewels and sparkles for really special pony fun. If your little one is stroller-bound, attach a carrot to a string and a stick to dangle in front of your reluctant pony!
