Hot Halloween Costume Trends for Infants,
Toddlers, and Kids in 2006
The
top costumes of years past will surprise some, seeing the bulk of the list
is made of traditional characters like witches, princesses, pirates and
vampires. Comprised by the National Retail Foundation (NRF), this list of
top costumes may help you make decisions when picking out a costume for
2007!
- Princess:
The generic Princess outfit was the top costume in 2005 and 2006. With
the sparkly dress, tiara and fancy shoes, who wouldn’t want to be a
princess? Expect to see the princess near the top of the list for 2007
as well.
- Pirate:
With the success of the Pirates of the Caribbean movies, who
wouldn’t expect to see a resurgence of these parrot-toting seamen or
sea-women? If you choose a pirate for your little one, you might want to
forgo the eye patch since it limits visibility.
- Witch: The
witch is a perennial favorite made even bigger with the success of
Harry Potter. Witches can be the traditional ones with pointy hat
and green face, or the robed version with wand in hand like Hermione. If
you’re little one wants a green face, make a paste out of corn starch
and shortening. Add in green food coloring with just a touch of red for
that ‘icky’ look everyone loves.
- Spiderman:
Who doesn’t love this web-slinging hero? Again, this is another costume
made hugely popular by movies. The great thing about a Spiderman costume
is you can find it in newborn, infant or toddler sizes for wall crawling
fun this year.
- Superman:
Superman has been an icon since his leap to fame as America’s first
super hero. The release of Superman Returns in 2006 made this
popular costume even more the rage last year.
- Disney
Princess: Who wouldn’t want to be one of Disney’s famous princesses?
Little girls of all sizes can find one to identify with—choose from
Ariel, Jasmine, Belle, Cinderella, Aurora, Snow White, Mulan and
Pocahontas.
- Power Ranger:
The success of the TV show, movies and action figures make Power Ranger
costumes a hit. If your little Power Ranger wants to carry one of the
fighting weapons, make sure he or she practices safe carrying
techniques!
- Pumpkin:
The pumpkin is always a favorite, especially in the newborn and infant
age group. Who doesn’t love this orange ball of fun!
- Cat: The
‘familiar’ of Halloween is a fun and easy costume for kids of all ages.
A black sweat suit, attachable ears and painted-on whiskers make for an
easy Halloween costume. No wonder it was on 2006’s top hit list!
- Vampire:
The top ten is rounded out with this hauntingly fun traditional costume
idea. Again, this is another one made popular by TV and movies.
